Effects of Cigarettes


Do you know that cigarettes can harm to your body? Do you know that it will leads to death if you use it for a longer period of time? Do you know someone who had vulnerable situation because of addiction of cigarette smoking?

cigarette is a cylindrical rolled paper containing dried and shredded tobacco leaves. Its main component is nicotine, a stimulant that is highly addictive. 

In addition, there are about 600 additional ingredients in a cigarette. It emits smoke that comprises 7,000 compounds in total, 69 of which are carcinogenic or cancer-causing substances. 





    

Why people smoke?

Peer pressure. People who have friends who smoke may feel pressured into            doing the same to be accepted.

Parental influenceThose who have parents or guardian who smoke are more likely to start smoking.

Advertising and media. Advertisements of cigarettes portray smoking as exciting, glamorous.

Stress reliefSome people smoke to manage tension and relieve stress from family or from work.

Negative Health Impacts of Smoking


Cigarettes smoking affects every part of the body, both inside and out. The harmful chemicals found in cigarette and in cigarette smoke damage the cells and every organ of the body


Types of Smokers:


Mainstream - is smoke that is inhaled into the smoker’s mouth and lungs. 



Second-hand smoke - is also called  as Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS). It is the mixture of the smoke coming from the burning end of the cigarette and the smoke exhaled by the smoker.



Third-hand smoke -is the residue from cigarette smoke found in clothes,  furniture, and other surfaces after the cigarette has been put out .



*is residual nicotine and other chemicals left on indoor surfaces by tobacco smoke. 



What are the impacts of cigarette smoking on the family, environment, community?


On Family

a. smoking around them and letting them inhaled second-hand smoke

b. exposing them to third hand smoke


On Environment

        • air pollution

• littering caused by cigarette butts

•death of aquatic organisms through ingestion of cigarette butts

•fire caused by discarded lighted cigarettes.


On Community


Smoking in public places in your community exposes the non-smokers,  especially the infants and children, to the harmful effects of second-hand smoke and third-hand smoke.
